Katie Durgā, founder of Durga Mindfulness, is a yoga and meditation teacher, an executive and life coach, and a breast cancer survivor. Katie takes a pragmatic approach in both her coaching and teaching, able to draw from her extensive experience in senior leadership, yoga and wellbeing to tailor programs to meet your needs. Katie draws from this varied experience, her spiritual wisdom, meditation and array of practices to create a framework for practical life change. Katie comfortably works in corporate environments, studio environments, private settings and retreats.
She has extensive senior leadership experience in both the private sector, including with firms such as Big 4 Accounting Firms, and the largest agencies in the public sector. She is a change leader and led many significant projects over the years. Katie has a Business degree and was a Chartered Accountant for over two decades. She has continued to mentor future Aboriginal leaders in the workplace.
Katie has a wellbeing background, being a Yoga and Meditation teacher with over 1,200 hours of training from some of the best teachers in the world including Anand Mehrotra, Sarah Powers, Kaya Mindlin, Sharada Vaidika, Heather Agnew, Seth Powell and Raj Balkaran. Katie also trained to teach yoga to women with breast cancer through REWIND Health in the US, as well as prenatal and postnatal yoga through Bliss Baby. With the teachings of her various teachers, Katie has contemplated and taken those teachings through her own life experiences including breast cancer, senior leadership roles, her India travels and her spiritual life - creating her own perspective of the wisdom.
Katie has trained extensively in Indian yoga philosophy. She is passionate about the history and tradition of yoga, particularly the Goddess tradition, the Devīmāhātmyam and the Bhagavad Gita. She encourages people to understand the broader meaning of yoga, rather than what you see in marketing and on social media. To Katie - yoga is a way of living, not simply a practice on the mat. Katie brought the ancient yogic wisdom to life during her recent breast cancer journey, allowing that wisdom to support her and help her to heal, and she now supports women on this same path. Katie is also writing a book on this important topic. Sharing this ancient wisdom in a practical way is one of her life passions.
A Level 2 teacher with Yoga Australia and a RYT500 Teacher with Yoga Alliance, Katie teaches Himalayan Kundalini yoga, Restorative Yoga, Yin Yoga - gentle, floor based practices that bring deep peace. Katie is also a meditation teacher and she loves to help people find a meditation style that suits their lifestyle and help them see that meditation can not only build on their leadership strengths but also manage any challenge life may throw at them.
Katie completed her Brain Based Coaching certificate with the renowned NeuroLeadership Institute in 2019 and has been offering life and executive coaching in the Corporate, Government and private environments.
A regular traveller to India, and passionate about animal welfare, Katie has also been a Board member of the RSPCA ACT.
Katie brings her passion, her pragmatism and her experience when working with you. She helps you not only to manage stress in your life, but to work to eliminate it. To guide you to actively pursue your dreams, to heal, to help you manage challenges and take advantage of opportunities that may arise, and to create peace in your life.
Trust her coaching process! Katie has a beautiful presence that radiates a sense of calm, instantly making you feel safe, supported and allowing you to be vulnerable. Katie guided me to reach within to identify and own my present state, where I want to be and how I will pave my own path forward to reach my mountaintop goals. This experience has challenged me to think beyond what I thought was achievable, empowered ownership to implement my strategies to conquer the mountains I set to climb.
Practicing yoga under Katie’s guidance has opened up a whole new world for me. I have worked with other yoga teachers over the years, and was never introduced to the deep spiritual yoga traditions, or the power of mantra which I now appreciate greatly. I have come to a deeper moment by moment experience and reflective awareness since I started my practice with Katie. Through Katie, I now have another different, deeper, richer, joyous and also challenging path for the rest of my life. I now can experience, see and feel the connections to the rich spiritual yoga knowledge and philosophy built over thousands of years, as fresh and alive as ever in each moment. Katie is a sensitive and masterful guide, and I trust her considerable knowledge, heartfelt spiritual awareness, professionalism, expertise, and guidance. Thank-you, Katie. 🙏🏼
