A Medicine Woman’s Prayer (by Sheree Bliss Tilsey)
I will not rescue you,
For you are not powerless.
I will not fix you,
For you are not broken.
I will not heal you,
For I see your wholeness.
I will walk with you through the darkness,
as you remember your light.
Yoga educator and guide to the deeper wisdom traditions of yoga.
Helping people apply ancient teachings in modern life through practice, reflection and rest.
Katie Durgā is the founder of Durga Mindfulness and a lifelong practitioner of the wisdom traditions of yoga. A yoga educator, executive and life coach, published author, long-time student of India’s spiritual traditions, and breast cancer survivor, Katie’s work is grounded in a simple philosophy: the teachings of yoga are not meant to remain intellectual ideas — they are meant to be lived.
Over decades of study and practice, her path has included pilgrimages across India, learning from extraordinary teachers, senior leadership roles in corporate environments, and profound personal experiences that have brought the teachings vividly to life. These experiences shape the way she teaches today — helping people apply ancient wisdom in practical ways that support meaningful change. Katie works comfortably across a wide range of settings including corporate environments, yoga studios, private mentoring, teacher trainings and retreats.
A Practitioner First
Katie is a Level 2 teacher with Yoga Australia and an E-RYT® 200, RYT® 500 and YACEP® teacher with Yoga Alliance, but first and foremost she considers herself a practitioner — a seeker on the spiritual path of yoga known as a mumukṣu, one who longs for liberation. Always learning. Always evolving. Always exploring how the teachings of yoga come alive through real experience.
Katie is an initiated Tantric practitioner in the Goddess traditions, and these teachings are inseparable from her life. For her, yoga is not simply something that is studied or taught — it is something that is lived. In an increasingly busy world, she loves guiding people to rediscover inner peace and clarity through deeply restful yoga practices, mantra, meditation, breathwork and wisdom from the ancient scriptures.
Study, Teachers and Lineage
Katie has completed over 2,500 hours of training and has been blessed to study the wisdom and science of yoga with
some of the most respected teachers in the world. Her primary teachers and guides include:
- Kaya Mindlin (USA)
- Sadhvi Abha Saraswati (Mataji) and Dr Indu Sharma at Parmarth Niketan Ashram in India
- Om Tirth (India / UK)
- Anand Mehrotra at Sattva Yoga Academy (India)
Other influential teachers include Sharada Vaidika (Bali), Heather Agnew and Raj Balkaran (Canada), and Indu Arora, Sarah Powers and Seth Powell (USA). Katie has also trained to teach yoga to women with breast cancer through REWIND Health (USA) and completed prenatal and postnatal yoga training through Bliss Baby. She has studied Indian yoga philosophy extensively and is particularly passionate about the Goddess traditions, the Devīmāhātmyam and the Bhagavad Gītā. In addition to her yoga studies, Katie completed a Brain-Based Coaching Certificate with the NeuroLeadership Institute and has worked as a life and executive coach across corporate, government and private sectors.
Lived Wisdom
Over many years Katie has contemplated the teachings of her teachers deeply and explored them through her own life experiences — including senior leadership roles, extensive travel and study in India, and her personal journey through breast cancer. Through this process the teachings have become more than knowledge; they have become lived wisdom. One of Katie’s passions is sharing ancient teachings in ways that are practical and relevant to modern life. She has shared these teachings through her programs and at international events such as the Belize International Yoga Festival.
A Champion of Rest
Katie sees herself as a champion of rest. In a world that constantly asks us to do more and move faster, she helps people rediscover the profound power of rest through practices such as Restorative Yoga, ŚRY Yoga (Supreme Release Yoga), Yin Yoga and Himalayan Kundalini Yoga — gentle, floor-based practices that bring deep peace to the nervous system. She also teaches the ancient practices of meditation, prāṇāyāma, mantra and ritual, and loves helping students develop a sādhana that supports their own spiritual path.
Working With Katie
Katie brings together wisdom, pragmatism, authenticity and lived experience in her work with students and clients.
Her intention is not simply to help people manage stress, but to guide them toward a deeper understanding of yoga and how
its wisdom can truly bloom in their lives. Through her teaching she supports people to:
• cultivate inner peace
• navigate life’s challenges
• reconnect with purpose and meaning
• pursue their dreams with clarity and courage
Above all, Katie’s work is about helping people rediscover the peace, strength and wisdom that already exist within them.
